BELGIUM CHAMPIONSHIP SPEED

April 18th
Best run "scratch" for Pascal Somers on 500m.

During the Belgium Championship Speed Week in Gruissan, Pascal finished 5th overal.
With his 75kg (only!), he has done the best run of this week, using TRACER 68 with a Select Lighting Speed 25cm and RS6 5.8.
"Because of shifting winds, the angle was never more then 100°... far from ideal. So it was very important to catch the gust at the right time and create best angle troughout the whole course!"

CONCEPT SHAPE:
The Seal Concept

Comme à lÿ?époque du « no nose », le programme wave compact, inspiré des « fish » dévoile son caractère trop technique..
Oui un flotteur court est plus maniable, plus réactif, passe mieux le clapotÿ?
Mais son accessibilité est réduite, son équilibre perturbé par la faible longueur et le manque de nose qui oblige le shapeur à rajouter du volume à lÿ?avant et particulièrement sur les rails.
Cela se traduit lors du départ au planning, des transitions ou des réceptions de sauts/relance par une tendance à enfourner.
Trop de volume sur le rail avant implique également un refus du flotteur à sÿ?engager dans de longues courbes ou dans des conditions plus sévères.

Le « SEAL CONCEPT » vient répondre à tous ces inconvénients.

Il a vu le jour sous lÿ?impulsion de notre jeune wave rider Antoine Baldet qui souhaitait naviguer sur un « Fish ».
Pascal Gerber shape alors une première board de 206x53x63l, et pour appuyer le développement en shape une dans la foulée de 80l (212x60) pour Bruno Andre.



Les premiers tests révèlent le caractère explosif de ces flotteurs, répondants aux moindres appuis, voir même trop instables et déséquilibré par la faible longueur, et le volume sur le rail trop important sur lÿ?avant du flotteurÿ?
Les boards sont alors testées en tri fins pour tenter de stabiliser les courbes.
Tous les tests démontrent un progrès, et si les petits ailerons apportent un + certain, cÿ?est bien sur les rails quÿ?il faut travailler.

Naissance du Seal.








Sur un même out-line, nous avons rajouté encore plus de volume sur lÿ?avant, plus encore sur le milieu de la zone. Puis, Pascal a shapé des rails de volume « classique » créant ainsi une cassure sur chaque côté du pont.

Ce concept, court, équilibré par un volume maximum sur lÿ?avant, ne plonge plus du nose lors des phases « non-planning ». Cÿ?est super stable, même lors du passage des mousses avec une vitesse mini.
En surf, le rail diminué rentre dans lÿ?eau et accroche la courbe, annulant ainsi le refus du rail trop volumineux au contact de lÿ?eau.

Avec un ou trois ailerons, le flotteur tourne sur place, est super réactif et peu encombrant. Le shape accélère fortement lors du bottom et du cut back et permet de surfer des vagues molles avec une vitesse remarquable !








Avec une longueur de 215cm, une largeur de 59cm, 82 litres de volume et un poids de 5.5kg, le Seal est le flotteur compact performant ! Jugez de vous-même en regardant la vidéo !

The compact wave program, inspired from the ÿ?Fishÿ?, shows its technical face, like did the « no nose » at its period.

Yes, a short board is more manoeuvrable, nervous and rides easier in chopsÿ?
However its accessibility is reduced, its balance disturbed because of its poor length and the lack of ÿ?noseÿ? which obligates the shaper to add volume on the front part of the board.

This negative balance can be felt by the rider when starting planning, during transitions or after landings; one can feel the board wants to dive from the nose.
The excess volume on the front rails makes the board refuse engagements in curves or in wilder conditions.

The ÿ?Seal Conceptÿ? is the answer to the inconvenience of the ÿ?fishÿ? concept boards.

It was first developed by the input of our young wave riderÿ?s (Antoine Baldet) who wanted to ride on a ÿ?Fishÿ?.
Pascal Gerber then shaped a first board that measures 206cm x 53cm with 63 litres for Antoine and another board that measure (212cm x 60cm) with 80 litres for Bruno Andre.



The first tests of the Fish board showed the explosive side of the boards, answering to the less push, maybe too unstable and not well balanced because of the short length and the important rail on the frontÿ?
Our riders tested the boards equipped with tri fins, in the aim of giving stability in the curve.
The results of the tests were positive, but although the fins addition gave a plus, it was definitely on the rails that we needed to work.

The Birth of the Seal Concept








On the same out-line, we increased the volume in the nose, especially in the middle zone. Pascal then shaped rails with ÿ?classic volumesÿ? rails, building a step on each side of the deck.

This concept, short, balanced with a maximum volume in the front, enables the board to have an increased stability. The board does not dive anymore from the nose during non-planning times. The stability is amazing, even over white water waves with no speed.
In surf, the reduced front rails go into the water and fix the curve, cancelling the railÿ?s refusal on contact to the water. The shape accelerates in bottom turns, and rollers, allowing wild surfs on small or soft waves with crazy speed!
With single or tri fins, the board turns shortly, immediately, with a maximum response.








With a length of 215cm, 59cm width, 82 litres and 5.5kg, the Seal is the efficient compact wave board! Just have a look on this video !
