Julian, what did attract you to the Sealion concept?
I have always spent my free time windsurfing, surfing and since two years stand-up paddling. I was for sometime looking at Sups with a mast track to get a better return on my light wind sessions, but was rebutted by the bulky aspect of those. You showed me the concept: ultra nimble, light, easily carried, multi-activities and last but not least an attractive look ! That was tempting! Being of an inquiring mind, by nature, I only had to test!

First I had to suffer a rather tough first session, but in the end I got totally sold on the concept, even if I had to change all of my automatisms and spend 1/2 hour learning……Now I am hooked!

Now that you own your own board and have a few sessions experience, can you tell us what has changed in your vision of the concept?

I like it more and more every time. It’s kind of going back to the roots of the sport. I can be on the water whenever I want to, wind or no-wind, waves or flat water and friendliness is coming back. Each session brings specific memories. Ultra-light wind sailing is different by the lack of stress, the ability to watch others’ manoeuvres, and we are all cheering at each other … pure fun. My biggest surprise? …. We have tested in strong winds… it’s working too!

Technically speaking, if strapless sailing may be a bit worrying at the beginning, it brings no harm, much to the contrary, it’s radical in surfs, feelings are very precise and one can optimise his feet placing and pressure. When you get back on a traditional board you can feel the progress you have made, in other words sailing a Sealion helps you improve your technique and trim your body!

3 words to define the Sealion
Fun, radical, friendly
